First Ministerial Meeting on the Development of NIS Environment Strategy, the Hague, April 17, 2002

Ministers of Environment of the NIS and West Europe met in the Hague to discuss an initiative undertaken by Ukraine and Georgia and supported by other NIS Ministers to improve the state of the environment and to strengthen cooperation for addressing common environmental problems.

Workshop on Aligning National Systems for New Chemical Notification and Assessments (Rome, Italy)

The objective of the workshop is to further OECD's efforts to improve the efficiencies of new chemical notification systems in Member countries, by identifying ways to, among other things, implement a standard notification form across OECD countries, and harmonize exclusion/exemption requirements.

The conference aims to shed further light on the linkages between FDI and the environment in a sector, that is of importance for developing economies, and where environmental concerns are frequently voiced. The mining sector will be used to derive broader lessons for the FDI - environment linkage.

A celebration of 10 years of the Working Group on Pesticides and the 13th Meeting of the OECD Working Group on Pesticides, 4-6 February 2002, Paris

The OECD Working Group on Pesticides (WGP) will celebrate the 10 year anniversary of its formation on 4 February 2002. The WGP will hold a Brainstorming Session to identify future challanges in Pesticide Regulation. The Event will be followed by the 13th Meeting of the WGP, 5 and 6 February 2002.

OECD Workshop on the Economics of Pesticide Risk Reduction, hosted by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, Copenhagen, Denmark

This November the Pesticide Programme will hold a workshop on the economics of pesticide risk reduction. To be hosted by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, the workshop will look at ways to assess the costs and benefits of pest control and ways to use such assessments for risk reduction.

Following the Almaty Consultations, the EAP Task Force agreed to establish a Group of Senior Officials on Urban Water Sector Reform. Its first meeting is scheduled to take place on 10-11 September 2001 in Kiev, and will gather high-level NIS representatives responsible for urban water supply.
