Jointly organised by UNCTAD, OECD and ILO, this meeting examined the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on economic and social development and growth with a view to encouraging action at the national, regional and global levels to implement outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). The sessions examined how ICTs can enable growth and development; the impact of ICTs on producitvity, growth and business sectors; and ICTs' impact on trade, labour markets and employment.

This OECD workshop, to take place in Paris, will bring together policy-makers, leading academics, private sector organisations, and civil society organisations to discuss the trends shaping the future of the Internet, explore the various approaches –technical, regulatory, and economic– that are being taken or can be taken to create new functionality for and increased trust in the Internet, to promote its sustained growth and adoption, and to identify opportunities for increased international cooperation on pressing issues.

On 16-17 May 2006, the OECD, in co-operation with the International Iron and Steel Institute and the Indian Government, will hold a conference in New Delhi on the situation and outlook for steel. The conference is an outgrowth of the high-level work on steel that was initiated under the auspices of the OECD in September 2001.

Spyware, malware,CERTs, R&D, initiatives targeting SMEs and individuals were among the topics on which more than 120 participants and 40 speakers from both APEC and OECD membership shared information. The panel discussion helped frame future cooperation between OECD and APEC in this area.

This workshop sought to identify good practices in international S&T co-operation between OECD members and non-members. It discussed possible indicators of such good practices, as well as S&T solutions conducive to sustainable development in the areas of water and energy. Proceedings will be published in May 2007.

Steel Committee Meeting on 27-28 October 2005
The forthcoming Steel Committee Meeting to be held at the OECD Paris-La Défense, on the 27-28 October 2005 will focus on: i) the situation in the steel market and industry (demand for and production of steel, international trade, prices, situation in raw materials, transport situation) and ii) strategy to involve non-member economies in the Committee's work.
