Joint OECD/ICPEN meeting on Electronic Commerce

On 1 April 2009, the OECD Committee on Consumer Policy and the International Consumer Protection Enforcement Network (ICPEN) held a joint meeting on Electronic Commerce at the OECD Headquarters in Paris. Discussions at the joint meeting will inform the review of the 1999 OECD Guidelines on Consumer Protection in the Context of Electronic Commerce that is being carried out by the Committee on Consumer Policy.

Symposium on Global Open Innovation Networks

This symposium at the OECD headquarters in Paris will examine the phenomenon of global open innovation from the perspective of companies and research organisations in France and Europe.  Bringing together business representatives from leading companies such GE Research, IBM, Deutsch Telekom, as well as public research organisations like the Pasteur Institut and INRIA, it will also assess the international variations in open innovation practices.

Consumer Product Safety: an OECD Roundtable

The OECD Roundtable on Consumer Product Safety brought together representatives from government, the business and civil society to discuss emerging consumer product safety issues in OECD countries and non-member economies. Focusing on non-food items, and in light of recent developments and trends, participants examined the challenges in domestic and international consumer product safety regimes, and identified ways to address the problems, including through enhanced international information sharing.

Workshop on network approaches to innovation

The objective of this workshop was to take stock of advances in social networks analysis and explore the possible use of this approach in OECD work, notably on innovation. It sought to present the network approach to economists and stimulate discussion with experts on the analytical potential of this approach for innovation analysis and measurement. OECD Shipbuilding Workshop with non-OECD economies and industry

This Workshop examined supply/demand and price/cost developments in the shipbuilding market, including the impacts of the current global economic crisis.  It also explored the changing structure of the world’s shipbuilding industry, and both governments and industry had the opportunity of discussing what responses can be made to deal with the challenges created by the market and structural changes. Symposium on open innovation platforms (Tokyo, Japan)

While well documented in the US and Europe, open innovation strategies to mobilise knowledge and technology inside and outside firms are also being launched in Asia. To take stock of recent developments and share experience between western and Asian OECD countries, the Japanese Ministry of Economy and Industry (METI) is hosting this symposium.
