The number of people over 80 will double in the coming four decades, rising from 3.9% of the population today to 9.1% in 2050 across OECD countries, and from 4.7% to 11.3% across the 27-member European Union. Up to half of the elderly will need help coping with their daily needs, says a new OECD/EC report.

Migration has started to pick up again, driven largely by people moving within the European Union. But the employment prospects for immigrants have worsened, with around one in two unemployed immigrants in Europe still looking for work after more than 12 months, according to a new OECD report.

Global agricultural production is expected to grow 1.5% a year on average over the coming decade, compared with annual growth of 2.1% between 2003 and 2012, according to the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook presented today in Beijing.
